Michael Gaither and His New Best Friends

Michael Gaither: Nostalgia. Sarcasm. Gratitude

Call it Singer-Songwriter, Americana, or Folk. Michael Gaither is a storyteller.

A Santa Cruz CA native and a KPIG radio station DJ, Michael takes the “write what you know” idea to heart, crafting songs that alternate between the nostalgia of small-town life and the challenges of modern technology. Always with plenty of humorous takes on everyday life. (In a previous life, Michael had a narrow brush with stand-up comedy and even sold a few jokes to Jay Leno.)

Onstage, Michael’s shows are a combination of his fun original tunes, stories with a back beat and Americana with a local angle, along with songs by artists who’ve influenced him. He’s always entertaining with lots of audience engagement. Michael is available as a solo performer or as a duo/trio/full band with his “New Best Friends” ensemble (Michael – vocals, guitar/banjo/harmonica; Eliza James – harmony vocals; Greg Abelar – bass; and Bill Walker – guitar).

Quotes

  • “Michael always chooses the music he plays to fit the venue, audience, and occasion, and strongly interacts with the audience. His own original compositions are witty, engaging, and observant of the foibles of our society. We are pleased to have had him play in our Ugly Mug acoustic music series many times over the last 18 years.”  – Dick Brundle, Fiddling Cricket Music
  • “Michael was our introduction to the world of professional musicians when we opened Discretion Brewing, and years later he remains a favorite.” – Kathleen Genco, Discretion Brewing, Soquel CA
  • “Michael helped launch music at our winery and put it on the map during 2020 with a residency on Friday nights that ran into the next year, and then rebooted/grew our trivia nights which have been very successful and helped grow our business. His shows are a mix of great songs with nostalgic original stories, well-chosen covers done in his own style, with lots of humor and audience interaction thrown in. Highly recommended.” – Bob Prikazsky, Owner, El Vaquero Winery, Corralitos CA

Opening for Michael Gaither and His New Best Friends will be country and Americana troubador Mike Hellman, with a bent for the unconventional. Slinging songs with substance, conviction and grit, he’s on a mission to tell his truth and he insists on being heard. An “outlaw” for outlaws, Mike’s music transcends the often narrow boundaries set by the mainstream country music establishment.

Ticket prices will be $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Concert starts at 4:30 PM — doors open at 3:30 PM. Snack foods will be available for purchase. Premium beers and wines will also be available for purchase.  Tickets (to be arranged) will be on sale at MARSHALL’S Market in Aromas (no fee) and at EventBrite   https://www.eventbrite.com/

NO DEPRESSION – The Journal of Roots Music, 2016 – wrote:

It’s hard to overstate the excellence of Cascada de Flores. Led by Arwen Lawrence (voice, dance, guitar) and Jorge Liceaga (voice, lead guitar, acting), the duo pay homage to Latin American radio in an act that combines impeccable musicality, theater and the utmost respect for Mexican and Caribbean rhythms and culture. Lawrence and Liceaga…. easily, and quite pleasingly, present a straight-up concert. Interspersed between beautiful renditions of boleros, guarachas and jazz standards are witty station IDs’, comedic “words from our sponsors,” dramatic radio skits and dancing. Think Mexican Prairie Home Companion and you start to get the idea.

Ticket prices are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Concert starts at 4:30 PM — doors open at 3:30 PM. GENERAL ADMISSION SEATING AVAILABLE. Snack foods will be available for purchase. Premium beers and wines will also be available for purchase.  Tickets (to be arranged) will be on sale at MARSHALL’S Market in Aromas (no fee) and at https://www.eventbrite.com/ (to be arranged)
